Copying your favorite guitar player does not necessarily make you a better guitarist. Some great guitar players use inferior techniques even though they turn out to be inefficient.

Some guitarists can successfully play with inefficient techniques, but you do not have to do the same thing. Copying inefficient playing habits from them will make your guitar play weapon and you will not be able to reach your music goal as soon as possible.
Here are some things that a guitarist will do to hurt your guitar as you copy them:
Wrap around the neck while playing
Many popular guitar players are wrapping their neck behind the neck during their performance. If you copy this, you will not be able to play the scales, arpeggios, or ricks that need stretching to play the frets far apart. This will also put a lot of unnecessary burden on your fretting hand / wrist. Instead of wrapping the thumb around the neck, keep it near the center behind the neck.
Your guitar is very low wearing
It is popular among guitarists to wear low guitar while standing. Playing the guitar very low while you are standing makes it difficult to play accurately.
